Reading Strategies:
Think-Aloud

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGvmSSCgwJE
The think-aloud strategy models for students how skilled readers construct meaning from a text.
The think-aloud helps readers learn to monitor their own thinking as they read and monitor their own comprehension. It teaches students to re-read a sentence, read ahead to clarify, and/or look for context clues to make sense of what they read.
It also slows down the reading process and allows students to watch their understanding of a text.

Story Maps
•Students can diagram the story grammar of the text to become aware of the elements the author uses to develop the story.
•Setting:  When and where the story takes place
•Characters:  The people or animals in the story
•Plot:  The story line which usually includes one or more problems or conflicts
•Theme:  The main idea or lesson that the author wants you to get from the story.
